WHICH WAY IS UP?

(Marsha Pratt, 2022)

I fell in love with two men;
One wore a solemn face;
The other a shifty grin.
But it  didn’t matter what either wore,
Cause’ they both resembled sin.

One possessed intellect.
The other  possessed speed.
They both smoked weed, but one had another specialty, which was planting his seed.

In the beginning it was up, up and away,
But when the relationships ended,
I was the one left broken and in dismay.

Left me asking myself, “what did I do wrong?â€

But the wrong was getting involved with  them.
Oh hell, I should have known!

Solemn face.
Shifty grin.
Why wasn’t I good enough?

Solemn face.
Shifty grin.
Why did I trust?

Solemn face.
Shifty grin.
I should have never let it start.

Solemn face.
Shifty grin.
Left me reeling, and crying,
not wanting to get out of bed,
I felt like dying.

Solemn face.
Shifty grin.
Why did either of you pass my way?

Every morning  I wake to drink from a bitter cup,
Eyeing myself in the mirror and asking;
Which way is up ?
